Reports: Suspect in custody in shooting of Jets' Kris Boyd
NFL New York Jets defensive back Kris Boyd A person of interest was in custody Monday in New York in the Nov. 16 shooting that left Jets cornerback Kris Boyd in critical condition, multiple outlets reported.
The suspect was apprehended in upstate Buffalo one week after the New York Police Department released surveillance images of the incident.
Boyd was taken to Bellevue Hospital following a midtown Manhattan shooting shortly after 2 a.m. He was able to conduct a brief interview with NYPD detectives to provide information and vital details about the incident.
Reports in the aftermath of the shooting indicated Boyd had a bullet lodged in his lung and underwent multiple surgeries in his first 24 hours at the hospital.
Boyd was upgraded to stable condition on Nov. 19, according to an NYPD spokesperson, and eventually released from the hospital. He was readmitted Nov. 28 after a setback during his recovery.
"I was released but had to return to the hospital due to my health issues," Boyd posted on social media. "I love and appreciate everyone of yall dearly who has prayed/reached out even if I can't get back to you.
"Head HIGH, God is not through with me yet!"
In its ongoing attempt to locate a suspect, the NYPD initially released a physical description of the primary suspect as part of a New York Crimestoppers Alert.
The alert had two images of the alleged suspect, which records showed took place outside of a restaurant on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue. NYPD described the suspect as "male, medium complexion, last seen wearing a black cap, black sweatshirt, black pants, multi-colored sneakers, and carrying a black bookbag."
It has not been revealed if Boyd was targeted in the shooting and a motive has yet to be revealed.
Boyd, 29, signed with the Jets in March but has not played in a game this season because of a shoulder injury. He has 81 games of NFL experience (six starts) with the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans from 2019-24.
