Photo: Joe Raedle/ [object Object] According to NBC’s Richard Engel, “senior US military officials” are weighing the possibility of air strikes against the Syrian regime, and it’s possible they could come “within the next couple hours.”
This comes a few short days after Secretary of State Rex Tillerson promised a “serious response” for a chemical attack that left 69 dead in northwestern Syria earlier this week. The New York Times on the Trump administration’s increasingly hawkish plans, saying that officials are weighing options for an airstrike:
American officials said the options ranged from a limited cruise-missile strike to destroy a relatively isolated military installation to a multiday offensive that could involve the use of American warplanes against a range of targets, including Syria’s extensive air defenses. One other possibility, experts speculated, might be to strike the airfield that Syrian aircraft used to carry out the chemical attack on the rebel town of Khan Sheikhoun.
