Reports: White Sox sign OF Michael Taylor

Mandatory Credit: Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images The Chicago White Sox are signing outfielder Michael Taylor to a one-year, $1.95 million deal, according to multiple reports Tuesday.
The 33-year-old center fielder is known for his defensive ability. He earned a Gold Glove Award in 2021. Last season, Taylor posted a 1.4 dWAR for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Taylor's offense has been much more inconsistent. He owns a career batting average of .235. Last season, he batted a career-low .193 for the Pirates.
In 2023, he displayed surprising power, launching 21 home runs in 129 games as a member of the Minnesota Twins. However, he recorded only five home runs in 113 games last season.
Despite his offensive shortcomings, Taylor's defense still gives him value on an MLB roster. His presence also allows the White Sox to shift star outfielder Luis Robert Jr. to a corner outfield spot, if needed.
