Riyadh Falcons atop standings at CDL Stage 1 Major qualifying
The Riyadh Falcons moved into first place with a 3-2 win over last-place Cloud9 New York on Saturday in qualifying for the Call of Duty League Stage 1 Major.
G2 Minnesota and the Los Angeles Thieves also won matches on Saturday as the final week of qualifying continued.
The 12 teams are playing seven matches apiece during qualifying, each win earning them 10 CDL points. While all 12 qualify for Major 1, which runs Thursday through Feb. 1 in Dallas, the results will determine whether teams begin the major in the upper or lower bracket.
The Riyadh Falcons (5-2) opened with a 250-130 win on Colossus Hardpoint before Cloud9 New York (1-6) drew even with a 6-5 win on Colossus Search & Destroy. The Falcons again moved in front with a 4-2 outcome on Exposure Overload, but New York responded with a 250-244 victory on Den Hardpoint.
The Falcons' 6-1 win on Raid Search & Destroy decided the match.
The Los Angeles Thieves (4-2) also needed to go the distance for a 3-2 win over Boston Breach (3-4).
Boston went up early with a 250-236 win on Colossus Hardpoint before Los Angeles countered with a 6-2 victory on Scar Search & Destroy. The Breach again took the lead on a 4-2 win in Den Overload, then the Thieves won Den Hardpoint 250-168. Los Angeles emerged with a 6-1 win on Den Search & Destroy for the match.
G2 Minnesota (3-4) swept Toronto KOI (3-4) by winning on Colossus Hardpoint 250-191, Scar Search & Destroy 6-2 and Den Overload 2-0.
