Mandatory Credit: Sam Navarro-Imagn Images Hunter Goodman had two hits, Kyle Freeland pitched into the seventh inning and the visiting Colorado Rockies beat Miami 3-2 on Wednesday to sweep the three-game series from the Marlins.
It was the first time Colorado has swept a series since May 13-15, 2024, at San Diego.
Freeland (1-8) allowed two unearned runs in 6 1/3 innings to pick up his first win since Sept. 8. Tyler Kinley pitched the ninth to earn his second save. Colorado has won three straight for the first time this season.
Heriberto Hernandez had two singles -- the first two hits of his major league career -- and Cal Quantrill (3-6) took the loss against his former team.
The Rockies took the lead in the first inning when Thairo Estrada hit a one-out double and Goodman followed with a triple.
Quantrill, who spent 2024 with Colorado and led the team with eight wins, gave up a one-out single to Keston Hiura in the second inning but retired the next 10 batters. The string ended when Tyler Freeman and Jordan Beck hit back-to-back doubles with two outs in the fifth to make it 2-0.
Quantrill allowed two runs on five hits in his five innings.
Freeland was in complete control through six innings. He gave up a two-out single to Connor Norby in the first inning and hit Dane Myers in the second inning but promptly picked him off at first. He retired the next eight batters before Hernandez reached on an infield single in the fifth.
The Rockies extended the lead off Janson Junk in the sixth. Goodman led off with a double, went to second on Ryan McMahon's flyout and scored on Brenton Doyle's sacrifice fly.
The Marlins got to Freeland in the seventh.
Norby reached on an error, Eric Wagaman hit a ground-rule double to left and Hernandez drove in a run with a single. After Jake Bird relieved Freeland, Wagaman scored on a forceout and Liam Hicks doubled to left but Jesus Sanchez was thrown out at home trying to score from first.
