Colorado Rockies minor league pitcher Erick Veras received a 56-game suspension without pay Friday after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.

The commissioner's office said the 18-year-old left-hander tested positive for Boldenone, a steroid. The suspension is effective immediately.

Veras has been pitching in the Dominican summer league. He is 2-0 with a 3.97 ERA in five starts this season, with 15 strikeouts and nine walks in 22 2/3 innings.

The Rockies signed the Dominican Republic native in January 2024 for a reported $125,000 signing bonus.
