Rockies Strike Out Four Times In Same Inning For Second Night In A Row
One of baseball’s rarest feats took place for the second night in a row as a Dodgers pitcher struck out four Rockies batters in one inning, only the 75th time in history it’s happened.
This time, the pitcher was L.A.’s Sergio Santos, who amongst the four eighth-inning strikeouts also managed to give up three runs. Santos flirted with opportunities to strike five batters out in the inning, as two of the other strikeouts were also in the dirt and required the putout to be made at first base. Just like last night, the magic inning was the eighth.
A pitcher striking out four batters in an inning happened only five times in the 1980s, but has happened 22 times in the past five years alone.
