Rockies tab Charlie Blackmon as special assistant to GM

Former Colorado Rockies star Charlie Blackmon was named special assistant to general manager Bill Schmidt on Saturday.
Per the Rockies, the retired outfielder will assist Schmidt in all areas of baseball operations.
"Charlie has been an integral part of the Rockies organization for over a decade, both on and off the field," Schmidt said. "His leadership, deep understanding of the game and passion for this franchise make him the perfect fit to step into this new role. We're thrilled to have him bring his unique insight and experience back to the Rockies players and front office."
Blackmon, 38, retired following the 2024 season after a 14-year career with the Rockies.
He is a four-time All Star who won two Silver Slugger Awards (2016, 2017). He finished fifth in the National League MVP Award voting in 2017, when he batted an NL-best .331 and led the majors in hits (213), runs (137), triples (14) and total bases (387).
For his career, Blackmon has hit .293 with 1,805 hits, 996 runs, 334 doubles, 68 triples, 227 home runs and 801 RBIs.
