Ryan Nugent-Hopkins assists all 3 Oilers goals to top Rangers
Mar 16, 2025; New York, New York, USA; Edmonton Oilers right wing Corey Perry (90) celebrates his goal with defenseman Evan Bouchard (2), center Ryan Nugent, Hopkins (93) and center Connor McDavid (97) during the first period against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Mandatory Credit: Danny Wild-Imagn Images Viktor Arvidsson scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins assisted on each Edmonton goal as the visiting Oilers won 3-1 over the New York Rangers on Sunday night.
Leon Draisaitl extended his career-high point streak to 18 games with an assist on Corey Perry's first-period goal. Stuart Skinner (21 saves) was stout for the Oilers, who also killed off all three Rangers power plays and have won two straight to split a four-game trip through New York and New Jersey.
Tied 1-1, Arvidsson played give-and-go with Nugent-Hopkins, then wristed the puck that caught the stick of New York's Zac Jones and knuckled by goaltender Igor Shesterkin (20 saves) to put the Oilers ahead at 6:09 into the final period. Bottled up most of the night, Edmonton superstar Connor McDavid scored on his first shot of the night with 3:25 left in the game to extend his point streak to 11 games.
Will Cuylle scored for the Rangers, who failed to record a third consecutive win. Fighting for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, New York has now earned one point in its last three home contests.
Edmonton, second in the Pacific Division, finally broke through with the night's first goal on its third power play of the opening period. With 41.3 seconds remaining before the first intermission, Perry, practically kneeling on the ice, backhanded an active puck off an ice-bound Shesterkin and in. The play was initiated by Draisaitl's shot.
Shesterkin, back in net after recording a 21-save shutout at Columbus on Saturday, was otherwise solid during the opening frame, stopping nine other Edmonton shots.
Five minutes into the second period, New York leveled the contest. Cuylle stuck with the play on his own rebound to convert past Skinner, who appeared to lose sight of the puck.
Moments later, though, Skinner came up big by thwarting Matt Rempe's partial breakaway.
With an assist, New York's Artemi Panarin has a point in nine consecutive contests.
