Sabres acquire Olen Zellweger from Ducks in draft-day deal

In exchange, the Ducks receive a second-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft and Anton Wahlberg, a forward prospect.
Zellweger, 22, is due to become a restricted free agent on July 1. The Sabres announced the trade but no information on a contract extension.
The three-year pro played in 76 games this season for the Ducks and registered 22 points (seven goals, 15 assists). He appeared in three playoff games and tallied two points (one goal, one assist).
Zellweger has 51 points (16 goals, 35 assists) in 164 regular-season games with the Ducks, who selected him with the No. 34 overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Wahlberg, 20, was drafted by Buffalo with the No. 39 selection in the 2023 draft. In the 2025-26 season, he played for Rochester of the American Hockey League and recorded 37 points (nine goals, 28 assists).
The Ducks also acquired the 45th pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, which begins Friday night and continues Saturday at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo.
