Saint Louis tabs Josh Schertz as head coach

Saint Louis named Indiana State's Josh Schertz as its men's basketball coach on Saturday morning.
The Billikens have been seeking a replacement for Travis Ford, who was fired March 13 after eight seasons and a 146-109 record. Saint Louis finished 13-20 (5-13 Atlantic 10) in the 2023-24 season.
Schertz, 48, guided the Sycamores to a 32-7 record (17-3 Missouri Valley Conference) in 2023-24. They advanced to the NIT championship game before dropping a 79-77 decision to Seton Hall on Thursday in a matchup of No. 1 seeds.
"Josh's teams win at a high level and compete for championships while performing at an elite level of offensive and defensive efficiencies. They compete with a disciplined focus and toughness that elite teams possess," Billikens athletic director Chris May said. "Josh is a dynamic leader who will build a championship basketball program that the entire Billiken community will be proud of."
In three seasons as the head coach of Indiana State, Schertz had a 66-40 record and was named the Atlantic 10's Coach of the Year last month.
"The opportunity to work, recruit and live in the great sports city of St. Louis was incredibly appealing," Schertz said. "I can't wait to get to work building and developing a program everyone involved with can be proud of."
