San Diego Coach Lamont Smith Resigns Following Arrest On Suspicion Of Domestic Violence

University of San Diego head basketball coach Lamont Smith has resigned, almost two weeks after he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and two days after police announced that he would not face charges. San Diego initially suspended Smith on the day after his arrest.
A woman called police to the team’s hotel in San Francisco on the evening of San Diego’s 64-61 win over USF, saying that she had been intimately involved with Smith and he had assaulted her. She was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and he was ultimately arrested at the airport on his way back to San Diego.
This was Smith’s third season as San Diego’s coach.
