Sceptres sign D Ella Shelton to 1-year extension
Canada's Ella Shelton carries the puck at the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, NY on Thursday, April 11, 2024. The Toronto Sceptres announced a one-year extension Wednesday with defender Ella Shelton through the 2026-27 PWHL season.
The 27-year-old Canadian spent the past two seasons with the New York Sirens, tallying 15 goals and 22 assists in 48 games since being selected No. 4 overall in the inaugural 2023 PWHL Draft.
"Signing Ella was a priority for us," said Sceptres general manager Gina Kingsbury. "We value the impact she brings both on and off the ice, and her values align perfectly with what we're striving to build -- a strong culture, a relentless growth mindset, and a competitive edge rooted in a true winning mentality."
Shelton scored the first goal in PWHL history on Jan. 1, 2024 against Toronto.
The 2022 Olympic gold medalist and three-time world champion was traded to the Sceptres on June 24 in exchange for first-round (third overall) and fourth-round (27th overall) picks in the 2025 PWHL Draft.
The Sceptres open the 2025-26 regular season on Friday night in Minnesota against the defending champion Frost.
