Seton Hall Fires Bobby Gonzalez, Leader Of Cock-Punchers And Alleged Burglars
Bobby Gonzalez was doomed the moment reporters got his former secretary to bag on him, but if there's a proper day to get canned, it's probably the day after your erstwhile charges engage in some nutpunching and (alleged) burgling.
Earlier this month, The New York Times called Gonzalez "a divisive figure," which what the Times says when the rest of us would merely say "dick." His firing today was thus pretty much inevitable, especially after Seton Hall missed the NCAA tournament. And then came the crotch punch heard 'round the world, and then came this:
Also Tuesday, a Pirates player, Robert Mitchell, was arrested in Newark and charged with kidnapping, robbery, burglary and possession of a weapon, according to a law enforcement official in Essex County. Mitchell was accused along with another person of breaking into a house in South Orange, duct-taping eight people and stealing cash and personal items. The police have not identified the other person.
Gonzalez had kicked Mitchell off the team over the weekend after Mitchell made comments critical of Gonzalez. He was quoted in The Record of northern New Jersey saying, "It's hard to stay consistent as a player, when the coach isn't consistent."
Yes, it's probably a good time to start packing up the office geranium when the accused burglar is leveling sensible criticism your way.
