Seton Hall's Men's Basketball Team Has A Lot Going On Right Now
Sophomore starting guard Jaren Sina abruptly left the Seton Hall men's basketball team Wednesday, and his decision reportedly stems from locker-room tumult.
"It's not a good situation for me right now," Sina told the Asbury Park Press yesterday. (He'll reportedly look to transfer and continue his career elsewhere.) Whatever's going on, Sina's not the only one involved. Seton Hall's student paper The Setonian reported that Pirates freshman Isaiah Whitehead and junior Sterling Gibbs almost fought during a timeout in Tuesday's loss to Georgetown:
...Whitehead and Gibbs came to near-blows in a team huddle during a second half timeout around the 11:19 mark of Tuesday's game. No punches were thrown but Gibbs had to be separated by associate head coach Shaheen Holloway as things escalated. Apparently, the two guards have been at the center of the team's ongoing locker room divide.
Worth noting: Sina and Gibbs are friends, and they lived together last year.
A more recent report by Jerry Carino of the Asbury Park Press claims there's a rift between the younger and older players, which has intensified since Whitehead's return from an injury. The Pirates have also slumped on the court: the squad's lost six of its last eight games, and now sits at 15-9 on the season after a 12-2 start.
