Several Broncos Fans Plan To Spend Their Super Bowl Savings On "Start Tebow" Billboards
Some people might wait until Week Two to write off their professional football team's chances of a successful season. Jesse Oaks and his seven friends are not those people.
No, they saw Kyle Orton's performance in the season opener against Oakland and despair descended upon them all. Granted, they're pretty much delusional for thinking all wasn't lost before the Broncos's preseason kickoff, but they stuck to their "save for a trip to the Super Bowl in Indianapolis" guns anyway.
But no more.
These eight superfans commit their money to the style of gimmickry good for one day of ha-ha attention, but probably no action from the deciders.
[T]he group concocted a new plan for how to spend those dollars: Buy two billboards on which to implore the Broncos bosses to make a change at quarterback.
"We believe in Coach Fox, we're just tired of Kyle Orton," Oaks said. "We were sitting around after Fox said he didn't hear the chants for Tebow, and we figured if he's deaf, we hope he's not blind."
Oaks, who lives in Independence, Ky., said he has called several billboard companies, and was told it would cost $10,000 to purchase two billboards in downtown Denver.
"We're not blind, we know when we see good football. We see other teams making good plays and we don't see that from our team. We can sink or swim with Tim Tebow, why wait a few more years?"
Fine, they love their team, but it's a two-hour drive from Independence, Ky. to Indianapolis so, barring greedy toll trolls, a full-page ad in Westword might be a more realistic investment.
