Maciariello confirmed to the Times Union in Albany, N.Y., that he had been let go after Siena's 4-28 season. Maciariello has two years remaining on his contract at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference program, per the newspaper.
Maciariello finishes 68-72 but posted winning seasons in his first four years and led the Saints to consecutive regular-season titles in 2020 and 2021.
Maciariello played one season for Siena in 2000-01, averaging 3.5 points in 31 games (one start). He played his first three seasons at New Hampshire. He averaged 7.3 points and 2.4 rebounds in 108 career games.
The Siena job has been a launch pad for coaches.
Paul Hewitt left Siena for Georgia Tech in 2000, and Louis Orr went to Seton Hall after one season as Hewitt's replacement. Fran McCaffery spent five seasons with the Saints before being hired at Iowa.
