Mandatory Credit: Troy Wayrynen-Imagn Images Goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau made five saves as the Portland Timbers played to a 1-1 draw with the visiting Seattle Sounders in a Cascadia Cup clash Saturday night.
Santiago Moreno scored for the Timbers (6-3-5, 23 points), who have lost just once in their past 11 league matches (5-1-5).
Albert Rusnak scored for Seattle (5-4-5, 20 points), who outshot the Timbers 14-5 and had a 6-1 edge in attempts on target.
The Sounders pressed for the go-ahead goal in the closing minutes, but Creapeau made saves on Georgi Minoungou in the 88th and Pedro de la Vega in the 89th minutes respectively.
Timbers' defender Finn Surman also made a pair of sliding tackles to prevent scoring opportunities by Paul Rothrock in the 73rd minute and de la Vega in second-half stoppage time.
The Sounders opened the scoring in the 30th minute. Cristian Roldan sent a long pass ahead to Danny Musovski at the top of the 18-yard box. Musovski dropped a pass back to Rusnak, who put a 20-yard shot between the legs of Surman and into the lower left corner of the net.
The Timbers tied it just six minutes later on a counterattack. David Da Costa and Juan Mosquera played a give-and-go down the right wing, with Da Costa dribbling to the end line before cutting a pass back to Moreno at the top of the 6-yard box for a powerful one-timer into the upper right corner of the net.
Crepeau made three saves in the first half, on Rusnak's long-range shot in the 22nd minute, Musovski's attempt from the left side of the penalty area in the 32nd and Yeimar Gomez Andrade's header off a corner kick in stoppage time.
While the clubs have met more than 100 times in the past 50 years, dating back to the old North American Soccer League, their series in MLS regular-season matches remained tied at 15-15-11.
