Stanford jumps out to big lead, dominates UT Arlington

Benny Gealer and Chisom Okpara led a balanced attack with 17 points apiece and Stanford held visiting Texas-Arlington at arm's length throughout the second half in a 76-60 nonconference victory Wednesday night in Stanford, Calif.

AJ Rohosy added 13 points, Jeremy Dent-Smith 10 and Ryan Agarwal nine for the Cardinal (9-2), who scored 21 of the game's first 28 points and won their second straight.

Cash Chavis had a team-high 14 points for the Mavericks (7-4), who led 4-2 in the game's second minute before watching Stanford take control.

The Cardinal scored the game's next 12 points to take a 14-4 lead at the 15:23 mark. Rohosy began the run with a pair of hoops, Gealer chipped in with a 3-pointer and a three-point play, and Okpara added a jumper to open the double-digit lead.

Stanford extended the margin to 21-7 on an Agarwal layup in the game's eighth minute, then 38-22 in the final minute of the half on a Dent-Smith 3-pointer.

The Cardinal, who shot 47.9% from the field for the game, led 40-25 at the break and never allowed the visitors closer than 10 throughout the final 20 minutes.

Rohosy hit five of his eight shots and Agarwal four of his six for the Cardinal, who got 66 of their 76 points from their starters.

Rohosy also found time to seize game-high rebounding honors with seven, Dent-Smith dished off a game-high five assists and Gealer led the defensive effort with three steals.

Marcell McCreary backed Chavis with 12 points for the Mavericks, who shot just 42% from the field. Amari Reed had nine points, Marcus Rigsby Jr. and Bahsil Laster eight apiece and Raysean Seamster seven for the visitors, who had won three of their previous four.

Reed and McCreary each had a team-leading five rebounds, while Chavis complemented his 14 points with a team-high four assists and two steals.

Neither team did much damage from beyond the 3-point arc, with the Cardinal making 5 of 16 and the Mavericks 4 of 14. Stanford's Gealer and Dent-Smith and Texas-Arlington's Rigsby made two 3-pointers apiece.
