Coach Glen Gulutzan said Benn would be activated from long-term injured reserve to play in the Stars' home game Tuesday night against the New York Islanders.
The 36-year-old Benn had surgery in September to repair a collapsed lung. He was injured in Dallas' preseason game Sept. 23 against the Minnesota Wild.
The Stars played 19 games without him and are 12-4-3 (27 points). They are on a five-game winning streak.
The forward has been with Dallas since the Stars selected him in the fifth round of the 2007 NHL Draft. He is one goal short of 400 in his career.
Last season, Benn appeared in 80 games and registered 49 points (16 goals, 33 assists).
In 1,192 career games, he has 956 points (399 goals, 557 assists). He won the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL's leading point scorer with 87 in 2014-15 and a gold medal with Canada in the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
In the offseason, Benn signed a one-year, $1 million contract that includes up to $3 million in bonuses.
