Steven Stamkos Scores On His Own Empty Net During Delayed Penalty
Though the Tampa Bay Lightning were on a delayed penalty, they still somehow surrendered a goal last night. Steven Stamkos is a scoring machine that doesn't have time to distinguish nets, dammit.
The gaffe was certainly fun to watch. As the Lightning were in their offensive zone, Stamkos's pass towards the blue line was off-target. The puck bounced off the boards and slid through Tampa Bay's empty net, looking more like a promotional contest between periods than an actual goal.
The goal was officially credited to the Sabres' Cory Conacher. Nice job, Cory!
Last night's blooper was actually the second delayed penalty own-goal in 2014. Patrick Kane scored a painfully slow goal on the Blackhawks' empty net back in January.
Stamkos compensated for his own goal by scoring the overtime winner for a 4-3 Lightning victory.
