A Very Confused Stuart Scott Thought Bob Ley Was In Azerbaijan
ESPN2 aired tonight's USA-Azerbaijan friendly from Candlestick Park, but it seems SportsCenter anchor Stuart Scott wasn't paying much attention—because the veteran newsman thought the match happened in Western Asia.
Never mind that the final statement from the soccer broadcast included the words "Candlestick Park," or that Bob Ley (who was not, as alleged, in Azerbaijan either) had to clean up Scott's mess. The entire "ad-lib" patter was designed around the conceit that the match broadcast originated from foreign country; how did Scott ever come to that conclusion? (Maybe he saw empty seats at Candlestick Park instead of U.S.A. supporters, and it led him to such a thing.)
Bob Ley, it appears, was in the studio next to Stuart Scott.
