Swiss Women's Hockey Team Wins Bronze Thanks To This Empty Netter
The Swiss took bronze in the women's Olympic hockey tournament today, thanks to this heads up play by 15-year-old forward Alina Muller. Down 3-2 with just over two minutes left to play, the Swedish team pulled its goalie to get an extra attacker on the ice. One minute later, Muller sent home the empty netter.
It's hard not to feel for the Swedes while watching that puck slide into the net—empty netters always come with a dose of heartbreak—but this one hurts extra because it ended up being the deciding goal. Right after Muller's goal, Sweden struck back to make the score 4-3, but by then it was too late. All this after they led the game 2-0 going into the third period.
But let's not dwell on Sweden. Look at how damn happy these Swiss girls are!
