Hey, Nick and Jimbo, the NCAA is on line one
Now that the tornado of dust whipped up by that Jimbo Fisher press conference has somewhat settled (don’t worry, there’s still plenty of other kinds of dust still floating around), the reality of what just happened is setting in. As thrilling as it was to watch adult men worth millions get up in fro...
Jimbo Fisher declares war on Nick Saban in press conference for the ages
You know what? Maybe everyone getting along wasn’t so great after all. When you think about it, there haven’t been any real true, deep-down, openly public, hate-filled coaching rivalries in college for awhile. Jimbo Fisher blew all of that up today in about 11 minutes, between 10:04 and 10:15 a.m. c...
Why don’t people talk about Marshon Lattimore like they do Trevon Diggs?
There was a time where Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore was considered one of the top young shutdown corners in the league. During his rookie season, Pro Football Focus gave Lattimore an 87.7 grade in pass coverage, the highest among rookies that year and the highest of Lattimore’s career. After ...
No more excuses: 2022 needs to be Tua time in Miami
Year Three will be a make-or-break year in Miami for Tua Tagovailoa. While the former Alabama QB has been decent for the Dolphins, he’s yet to lead them to the postseason. There’s absolutely no reason that shouldn’t change in 2022 with how the team has been restructured to focus more on the offensiv...
Your heart goes out to Tarik Cohen after more tough news
What happened to Tarik Cohen is part of the game. Whatever you might consider the game to be. Whether it’s just professional athletes — especially football players — being more susceptible to bodily injury than those who don’t move at 99 miles per hour aiming for each others’ chests to earn a living...
Have we learned nothing from Ja’Marr Chase last year?
Before the 2021 NFL season started, before the preseason started, before team minicamps started, from the moment Ja’Marr Chase was drafted, people were calling him a bust. I’m not some saint in this situation either. I wholeheartedly believed that the Bengals should’ve selected Penei Sewell with the...
Drew Brees’ midlife crisis is right on time
Over the weekend, Jameis Winston’s commentary about realizing his passion “wasn’t football,” it was “playing football” seems to have resonated with Drew Brees. It was also more interesting than anything he’s ever said in the public sphere. Brees is going through a pseudo-mid-life crisis exacerbated ...
Don’t believe the hype, Cowboys nation: Zeke running 22 mph in May is nothing but propaganda
Ezekiel Elliott had one of the best starts to his NFL career of any Cowboys player in recent memory. As good as Elliott was during his rookie season in 2016, his production has declined every year since. Many fans in Dallas, including owner Jerry Jones, continue to hold out hope of a return to the Z...
Pick a sport, any sport, and Danny Woodhead will beat you at it
I find it equal parts awe-inspiring and maddening when an athlete can play two sports let alone pick one up and, in a relatively short period of time, become better at it than a lot of people who do it for a living....
Fight me: RG3's rookie season was overrated
With a pair of Shanahans, Mike and Kyle, at the helm, Robert Griffin III had a fantastic rookie season. If not for injuries he sustained early in his career, it’s very likely that Washington would have had its franchise quarterback for the 2010's. I just want to get that out of the way before I real...
Dolphins, keep Tua’s wounded ducks to yourself
Hey there Miami Dolphins. Just thought that I would throw you a couple of friendly reminders....
Like his playing days, Tom Brady will likely cheat viewers and be a flop on TV
Tom Brady is destined to fail on TV....
In Denver, Russell Wilson looks the happiest he’s been in years and he hasn’t taken a snap
It still feels weird seeing Russell Wilson in Denver Broncos colors. If it feels that way for me, I can only imagine what it’s like for Seattle’s 12th Man fan base. But Wilson is already embracing his new surroundings with the Broncos franchise and within the Denver community....
Welcome to the spin zone with Pete Carroll
It’s crazy how quickly NFL head coaches forget how much a great quarterback matters after having one on their staff for an extended period of time. They get this notion in their head that it was solely their coaching that made these guys great, and all of the sudden you get Bill Belichick signing Ca...
Just another week in Jerry's World
It’s been a busy week for Jerry Jones following the NFL draft. First, there are the three days of the draft, as grueling as that whole process can be. Then Jones drafted tackle Tyler Smith with the No. 24 overall pick and was immediately questioned by almost everyone in Dallas. And to justify the se...
Army star could go from national defense to defense in the National Football League
As Andre Carter II showed his ability to shove past offensive linemen and obliterate plenty of quarterbacks for 15.5 sacks during the 2021 college football season, his steady rise as the integral member of Army’s defense led to momentum for a possible NFL career as well. Should he stay healthy in th...
I'm no mentor, says Ryan Tannehill
The subject of mentorship among veteran quarterbacks is a divisive one. There can only be one starter and there’s no more conspicuous rite of passage than an old vet buried six feet under on the depth chart by a young gun. Egos are fragile though. Kurt Warner has expressed his preference for showing...
The Falcons played with Matty Ice and got burned
Matt Ryan is a Falcons’ legend. He’s the franchise’s all-time leader in passing yards (by more than double the next closest), passing touchdowns (by more than double the next closest), and Approximate Value. He also led the team to one of their only two Super Bowl appearances and won the franchise’s...
Congrats, Browns, you weren’t inept and unethical
Congratulations are in order for Jimmy Haslam and the Cleveland Browns. The NFL’s independent investigation into former head coach Hue Jackson’s claims that the team paid him to lose games found “no evidence” to substantiate those allegations, proving that the team did not intentionally lose games b...
Hot tamper?
There’s a misconception that USC has spent the first few months of the Lincoln Riley era dragging a golden bus across the country and purchasing college football stars at every stop. As of May 2, the Trojans rank second in 247 Sports’ Transfer Team Rankings, but most of those student-athletes are ea...
