The Pelicans Are Finally Doing It Alvin Gentry's Way
The New Orleans Pelicans have a chance to sweep the Portland Trail Blazers out of the playoffs when the teams meet Saturday evening. It’s fair to say not many saw this coming, although the result will uphold at least one generally held maxim—that the team with the best player on it has the inside tr...
Jrue Holiday And Anthony Davis Overwhelmed The Trail Blazers
Saturday’s slate of NBA playoff games—Game 1s? Games 1?—mostly went as expected: the Warriors made lunchmeat out of the Spurs; the Raptors almost Raptored against the Wizards, but pulled away in the fourth quarter; the Sixers just ran away from the Heat in the second half. Home teams went 3-0 throug...
Big Boban Bigger Than Little Tony
For a single moment, on a dead ball, with their playoff hopes long dead too, the Clippers reduced seven-foot generational talent Anthony Davis to a small nephew....
Let Us Now Have Our Brains Melted By Anthony Davis
The New Orleans Pelicans came apart over the last, oh, 13 minutes or so of last night’s game and wound up losing pretty one-sidedly to the Utah Jazz, at home. Please do not let that distract you too much from the hilarious wonder of Anthony Davis’s 25-point, 11-rebound, 10-block triple double....
Anthony Davis Just Might Go Get The MVP
The AD and Boogie show was one of the best things going in the NBA, which made Boogie snapping his achilles tendon just before the All-Star break a downright depressing development. What’s definitely not depressing are the things Anthony Davis has been doing to the chumps who have had the misfortune...
It's 2018 And Emeka Okafor Is Playing In The NBA
The last time Emeka Okafor appeared on Deadspin as a NBA player, he was being escorted off a ride at Six Flags America in Maryland because he was too tall. He had turned 30 a little over a month earlier, and was at that time the starting center on a deeply bleak 29-win Washington Wizards team that a...
Please Don't Take Boogie And AD Away From Me
DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis are now 63 games into their career together, and the Pelicans are 34-29 over that span. That’s not any sort of record to be ashamed of, but it’s also just a little too heavy in the loss column to provide any assurance that Boogie and AD’s partnership will survive i...
Anthony Davis Is On An Unholy Tear Right Now
It’s weirdly easy to forget about Anthony Davis. The Pelicans big man has a fraction of the personality that DeMarcus Cousins does, he’s played in just four playoff games in his five-year career (all of them losses to the Warriors), and he’s been very good for long enough that the shine of an ascend...
Anthony Davis Turned Ron Baker Into Flying Shrapnel
The Knicks narrowly prevailed over the Pelicans last night in New Orleans, but not without great sacrifice. Ron Baker, blue-collar reserve guard, fell in the line of duty attempting a foolhardy contest of a driving Anthony Davis dunk:...
Boogie Cousins And The Pelicans Might Be Good, Definitely Are Great
DeMarcus Cousins is seven feet tall. He weighs, conservatively, 275 pounds. Here he is, doing pretty much all of the basketball stuff, in a single glorious ramshackle possession:...
Who Is The Best Two-On-Two Team In The NBA?
Ben Simmons dropped 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 10 assists last night and quietly flew under the radar. That is because Joel Embiid is a monstrous gift: His 46 points, 15 rebounds, 7 blocks and 7 assists blacked out the sun. There was a gazelle-like Euro step, a double Dream Shake, and easy pullups f...
Enjoy This Cousins-To-Davis Alley-Oop, Because The Pelicans Probably Won't Make The Playoffs
The Pelicans may have traded for the best player at the trade deadline, but they remain an outside shot to make the playoffs. That said, both DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis have been, statistically speaking, “pretty good” since the trade....
The Pelicans Are Playing With House Money
The DeMarcus Cousins era did not get off to the best start in New Orleans last night, as the Pelicans were blown out by the Rockets 129-99. No need to panic in New Orleans, though, because the Pelicans still have plenty of time to figure out how Anthony Davis and Cousins can fit together, and if eve...
Anthony Davis Teases Nut-Grabbing Buddy Hield
Pelicans rookie Buddy Hield was ejected from yesterday’s game against the Kings for whacking DeMarcus Cousins right in the yams. If you were wondering whether Hield’s teammates found the situation to be as amusing as you did, allow Anthony Davis’s Snapchat to clear a few things up for you:...
Anthony Davis Explains The Difference Between His Team And Good Teams
The New Orleans Pelicans started the season 0-8 despite having one of the very best basketball players in the world, Anthony Davis, on the roster. They improved a bit with the return of point guard Jrue Holiday, but they lost to a dreadful Mavericks team on Sunday and are now 6-12 on the season. Dav...
The Pelicans Are A Damn Disgrace
The New Orleans Pelicans are 0-8. In a vacuum, there’s nothing particularly alarming about a bad basketball team starting the season with eight consecutive losses, but the Pelicans have failed in a way that shouldn’t really be possible in today’s NBA....
Anthony Davis Will Show No Mercy
The Pelicans were supposed to be last year’s surprise Western Conference playoff debutante, but instead, injuries and incompetence stripped them of their chance and they pooped out an utterly forgettable 30-win season. Worst of all, Anthony Davis stagnated, got shut down in March with an injury, and...
The Only Good 49ers Highlight Tonight Was Anthony Davis Doing Rude Blaine Gabbert Tweets
The 49ers lost to the Carson Palmer-less Cardinals by 12 points tonight in front of about 50 or 60 fans. Blaine Gabbert laid an egg and threw for 162 yards, along with a pair of picks and a pair of touchdowns. The most noteworthy thing the team did on the field was knock coconuts. The best highlight...
