The Lakers' Best Rookie Isn't Lonzo Ball
The Los Angeles Lakers are at a crossroads. They’ve been in a lull for five seasons now, Kobe Bryant’s 60-point salvo notwithstanding, and with the looming free agencies of Paul George and, um, that guy in Cleveland, the time has come for the young players they’ve accrued over the past few years to ...
Report: Carmelo Anthony Used To Snooze Through Phil Jackson's Mindfulness Routines
Over at ESPN, Ian Begley has chronicled the festering relationship between former Knicks boss and unbearable weed pedant Phil Jackson and former Knicks star Carmelo Anthony. It’s a long string of satisfying anecdotes but my favorite one captures the purest essence of both characters:...
The Thunder Finally Cut Loose
The Oklahoma City Thunder have not been a very fun basketball team to watch this season, which is a weird thing to say about a team featuring many players who are known for doing spectacular things on a basketball court. It’s not even the 16-15 record that’s been a downer, but the gross basketball t...

The Turkish government is seeking a four-year prison sentence for New York Knicks center Enes Kanter for insulting president Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Twitter last year, according to an ESPN report on information from a state-run news agency in Turkey....

The driver of a semi truck carrying a dumpster filled with dirt had to be taken to an Oregon hospital with “serious” but non-life threatening injuries after he crashed into the swimming pool of Portland Trail Blazers guard Evan Turner this morning. A team of at least eight rescuers worked to save th...
Classy Stephen F. Austin Team Doesn't Refuse Opposing Coach's Weird Pep Talk
Cuonzo Martin’s 10-2 Missouri Tigers escaped an upset from Stephen F. Austin in Columbia Tuesday night, 82-81. By besting SFA coach Kyle Keller, Martin apparently believed he had earned the right to take over his entire team....

From the Daily News today comes a profile of Kristaps Porzingis’s flavorful “personal physician and trainer” Dr. Carlon Colker, who has no affiliation with the Knicks....
Lithuanian Basketball Fixer Secured Two Ball Brothers By Getting At Them On Twitter
LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball will head across the Atlantic into the Lithuanian countryside in a few weeks, and Andrew Keh of the New York Times visited Prienai to get a sense of what they’re getting themselves into. He found a small town with Ball family fever, where the pizza joints are blaring about t...
University Of Detroit Commit Calmly Breaks Rim On Breakaway Slam
Pickerington Central’s (Ohio) Adrian Nelson, who’ll be a Detroit Titan next year, delivered a literally show-stopping highlight tonight in his game against Groveport Madison. Given the opportunity for a wide-open dunk, Nelson showed off his strength (and maybe some weakness in the Groveport gym) by ...
Are These Assists?
What with all the nice fat triple-doubly Ben Simmons and Lonzo Ball lines, you might be wondering what exactly makes an assist. I am. Not because I’m interested in whether home scorers are especially generous to their local stars—both players, it turns out, average more assists per 36 minutes when o...
Larry Nance Jr. Obliterates Kevin Durant With A Huge Dunk
Larry Nance Jr., you’re a hero for this one....
Atlanta Hawks Make Woman Puke
In an amazing bit of serendipity during tonight’s Heat-Hawks game, the camera caught a woman profusely puking behind the bench during a timeout late in the fourth quarter....
Ben Simmons Is Still Not Shooting Jumpers
Playing without Joel Embiid tonight, Ben Simmons had 19 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. It was the fourth triple-double of his NBA career....
Pacers Completely Blow It Thanks To Dumbest Possible Pass
Victor Oladipo and Kyrie Irving treated everyone to an enthralling late-game duel tonight, combining for 20 points in the final two minutes of the game and swapping huge threes down the stretch. The Pacers trailed for the first 47 minutes of the game and struggled to stop Boston in the first half (J...
God, Remember Mario Hezonja?
The Orlando Magic fell way behind the Detroit Pistons Sunday afternoon, in no small part because instead of Aaron Gordon and Evan Fournier they had to start Shelvin Mack and Mario Hezonja. I know—you are scratching your head at how either Hezonja or Mack could possibly start in place of Gordon, a po...
40-Year-Old Manu Ginobili Is Still Out Here Winning NBA Games
Ancient old man Manu Ginobili no longer has it in him to dominate long stretches of NBA basketball games. It turns out that’s fine—Ginobili is still a useful rotation player for the Spurs, even as a 40-year-old, even as his body looks less and less like that of an NBA player and more and more like s...
Michael Beasley Is Just Cruel
The Oklahoma City Thunder narrowly topped the Philadelphia 76ers in an insane triple-overtime slugfest Friday night. You can imagine, they were therefore not at their most energetic Saturday night, playing the second leg of a back-to-back, in New York. Still, the Knicks, without Kristaps Porzingis, ...
Rudy Gobert Suffers Yet Another Ugly Knee Injury, Will Miss Another Month
Jazz center Rudy Gobert, one of the very few players in the NBA whose defensive work rises to the level of nightly spectacle, has suffered his second knee injury of the season, and will now be out another three to four weeks. This blows:...
Bobby Portis And Nikola Mirotic Are Undermining Chicago's Tanking Dreams
Nothing you are about to read should be construed as any sort of signal that the Bulls are now good. They are not. They’re bad. They’re so bad, in fact, that this run of good play, now, in December, might actually be a bad thing for them. Tanking incentives are about to change, and the Bulls, desper...
