Sam Hinkie Still Has No Idea What He's Talking About
The laughs arrive early in this longform profile of former Philadelphia 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie, by ESPN Mag contributing writer Jordan Brenner, beginning with the headline: “The man who just can’t win: Sam Hinkie (finally) speaks.” Specifically, I like the parenthetical “finally,” not-so-s...
Former Basketball Players Share Their Pat Summitt Stories
Over the course of her 38-year basketball career at the University of Tennessee, Pat Summitt coached and met an incredible number of athletes. In the wake of her death, some of those women shared stories about the winningest coach in NCAA basketball history....

The USA Olympic Basketball Roster Is Set, And We'll Probably Be Fine
One of the big storylines in the run-up to this summer’s Olympics was the fact that many of America’s best basketball players would not be making the trip. Steph Curry and LeBron James both decided they’d rather do other things this summer, Anthony Davis and LaMarcus Aldridge got hurt, and Russell W...
Kings Draftee's Father Is A Fiery, Irrepressible Twitter Troll
Last night, the Sacramento Kings selected Georgios Papagiannis with the 13th pick in the NBA Draft. The Kings, who have two guards under contract, passed on the only prospect to work out for them (Wade Baldwin) to draft a player who ESPN had going in the second round and Draft Express ranked as the ...
Cleveland Cavaliers Owner Dan Gilbert's NBA Championship Is Nothing To Celebrate
Hundreds of thousands of people crowded downtown Cleveland on Wednesday to celebrate the Cavaliers’ NBA championship, and aside from the 15 million or so people in Northern California, it seemed the rest of the country was celebrating alongside them—and rightly so. The Cavs took down the heavily-fav...
LeBron Told A Great Story About The First Time He Met Timofey Mozgov
As far as athlete speeches go, LeBron James’s address to a sea of Cavaliers fans at yesterday’s victory parade was pretty great. James spent his 15 minutes on stage cursin’ and jokin’ and thanking each of his teammates individually. The best moment came when he got to Timofey Mozgov....
Sports Drafts Are Immoral And Bad
The Sacramento Kings came in for even more derisive laughter than the baseline occasioned by any mention of their existence yesterday when ESPN’s Chad Ford posted the following in the little quasi-Twitter scroll thing on the right side of the Worldwide Leader’s busted website:...

Is LeBron The Greatest Of All Time Now?
Three weeks ago, if you had told me that you thought LeBron James was the greatest basketball player of all time, I would have done the annoying thing where I scrunch my face up and pantomime comparing weights on my hands and go Ehhhhhhhhh and launch into an intolerable disquisition about pure baske...

Warriors Fans Are Herbs
I’ve been thinking about this all season long, and now that it’s over it’s just time to say it: Warriors fans are herbs....
Kevin Love Is A Goddamn Hero
The Warriors knew exactly which matchup they wanted, after Kyrie went Steph in Steph’s face to put the Cavaliers up three with less than a minute to play in last night’s mind-blowing Game 7. They didn’t call a timeout to talk about it. They didn’t give Tyronn Lue a chance to make a substitution. The...
The Golden State Warriors Were Finally Figured Out
Over the past two seasons, Golden State had both a gear no other team possessed, and destructive weapons no other team could stop. But increasingly throughout the playoffs, and especially during Game 7, the Warriors couldn’t find them....
Hey Warriors, You Are Choking Shitbags
Today is Cleveland’s day, and I join with the rest of America in obnoxiously glomming onto the city’s moment even though I don’t deserve to. (In fact, I have spent much of the past decade joyously shitting on Cleveland for its miseries … but really, I’m so happy for you now!) Last night was one of t...
The Warriors Played Like Dunderheads, And Why Not? It Usually Works.
Every team has bad habits and bad patterns of play into which they frequently fall due to their specific makeup. The Golden State Warriors are hardly exempt from this; what makes them nearly unique is that their bad habits are the exact same thing that makes them great. Most of the time this is fine...
