Fat Bear Week is the event you didn't know you needed
Perhaps you have your own signs that summer is coming to an end. Here locally, it’s the ending of outdoor street fests or concerts. MLB playoffs might be another for you. Every place and individual probably has its own marker. But another one for all of us is the annual “Fat Bear Week” competition p...
Sage Steele and Clay Travis team up for double the idiocy
What kind of idiot, in the year 2021, sees a Clay Travis tweet, and thinks to themselves that rather than Fox’s resident sportbro spouting off false equivalencies or flat-out misleading people, he’s really making a great point?...
Thom Brennaman still doesn't get it: Born on third base and wondering why he’s back at first now
Thom Brennaman has been a lousy broadcaster for years. Lucky to get a job as a play-by-play man because his dad Marty was one of the best of all time, Thom got his voice and his start from his father, but proved to be as mediocre as so many silver spooners before him....
It’s showtime!
It’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights, it’s time to dodge the bags of piss...wait, those aren’t the original lyrics, are they? Well, for the USMNT they might as well be. ...
Brett Favre finally does something smart
Lately, it seems like whenever we hear Brett Favre’s name in the news, it’s because he’s said something controversial. This time Favre’s name is in headlines due to a positive message he’s sending out. The topic he is speaking on is significant to those involved with football in any capacity on any ...
Kirk Cousins isn’t good enough to make everyone deal with this bull
Yeah, I know. It shouldn’t matter what a player’s performance has been or will be to justify what their feelings are on the vaccine. Everyone who doesn’t get it is a moron. They can come up with whatever reason they like, but they’re either stupid, selfish, or some combination thereof. So I’m not a...

Space Jam 2 just sucks
So I saw Space Jam: A New Legacy over the weekend, and it’s just awful. Just an atrocious piece of cinema, and a blatant attempt to capture nostalgia money from fans of the original ‘90s film starring Michael Jordan. I wanted to wait until today to write anything about it though in order to get the ...
What happens in San Antonio stays in … Vegas?
“There’s no hard and fast rule across sports for how to handle team histories and intellectual property when franchises relocate, but there should be some common sense: when a team moves, if it changes its name, it relinquishes the history. It’s just good practice. Can you imagine the Oklahoma City ...
Cat Osterman tells Deadspin about her return to Olympic softball ahead of the Games
Cat Osterman will wear a different number when she steps onto the Tokyo dirt this summer — 38. It was her tryout number for USA softball after taking a few years away from playing the game. She wore No. 8 when she won Olympic gold in 2004 and silver in 2008 and in her storied career at Texas. Now, i...
Drunk Florida Man gets knocked out by Muay Thai kickboxer & MMA fighter Joe Schilling
In the history of random people trying (or fake-trying) professional fighters on the street, the average observer is still somehow usually surprised at how quickly it goes bad....
I just want to keep hearing the raucous din of Islanders games
I don’t have a real affinity for the New York Islanders. Great jerseys, ones they should have never abandoned, but other than that, whatever. Barry Trotz is maybe the best at getting his players to buy into his system, which is why it works so well, but that doesn’t mean it’s all that entertaining t...
Does the 'hot hand' really exist? Deadspin investigates, using Steph Curry's historic streak
On April 2, Golden State’s season reached its nadir with a 53-point loss to the Raptors in Tampa. Stephen Curry, who had recently returned from a five-game absence, sat out the second game of a back-to-back, Draymond Green was out with a finger injury, and it was the kind of night where the dynasty ...
Pipe down Curry minions! He’s NOT the MVP right now
It’s Trash Talking Tuesday, and today I’m trashing all those Steph Curry minions that think he should be the MVP.Sure, Curry is on a shooting hot streak. But his team isn’t over .500 and still isn’t guaranteed to make the postseason.Pump the brakes. There are better players on better teams more wort...

Alright alright alright. Well what the fuck do we have here?...

SEE IT: Figure skater’s ‘Joker’ routine will leave you grinning, & Gary Glitter won't see a dime
Josefin Taljegård will not be among the favorites for the figure skating medal podium at next year’s Olympics in Beijing after finishing 15th at the world championships on home ice in Stockholm. ...
Russell Wilson is not even here yet and I’m already sick of him
I know that right off the top, being a Bears fan means that A) I assume everything will go wrong no matter what happens, and B) I don’t have a true appreciation of what it means for an NFL team to have a top-tier quarterback. I’ve never seen one up close. I thought I did once, and it turned out all ...
Remembering Eddie Murphy’s Coming to America and the scene that made ‘In Da Face’ a thing
Frustrated by many erroneous foul calls on his star player Rik Smits, Dave Magarity found himself pacing up and down the sidelines at Madison Square Garden. It was another game, one of many for the Marist head coach. At the time, there was nothing remarkable about it. But what Magarity didn’t know w...
