The Athletic Outrages White Men Everywhere By Censoring Their Opinions On China
The Athletic didn’t publish any articles about Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey’s since-deleted Friday tweet in support of pro-democracy Hong Kong protestors, or about the subsequent manic attempts at damage control by the Rockets owner and the NBA, until a couple days after the controversy began. It ...

The Chinese Government Is Gamergating Daryl Morey
In summary: On Friday night, Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey tweeted a fairly bland slogan-like expression of support—“Fight for Freedom. Stand with Hong Kong.”—for ongoing protests against the mainland Chinese government’s encroachment on the autonomy of Hong Kong. Because the Rockets a...
The NBA Doesn’t Give A Fuck About People
The NBA already knows the math. The NBA already knows that whatever price it may pay for aligning themselves with the Chinese government against one of its own teams’ employees—all because Rockets GM Daryl Morey tweeted out a show of support for protesters in Hong Kong—will be nothing compared to wh...
How Much Is China Worth To The NBA?
Adam Silver has been credited for many things in his time fronting the money of the National Basketball Association, and even after you allow for the 30 percent reputational mark-up when compared with the other commissioners in North American sports, he’s done quite well. But now he is confronted by...
The NBA Is Happy To Play China's Game
If you were to work backwards, you’d find it pretty difficult to understand what exactly Daryl Morey said, and who exactly was so offended by it....

This Is The Move James Harden Spent His Summer Developing
James Harden teased a new, never-before-seen offensive move over the summer, something he’d been working on and perfecting this offseason, something that would be so intricate and unexpected that our poor, simple, obsolete brains would automatically assume what we’d seen must’ve been some kind of tr...
Russell Westbrook Restructured His Contract To Give Tilman Fertitta Some Money
This will be hailed as unselfishness and a team-friendly move, but it’s actually neither of those things: Russell Westbrook, in order to facilitate his trade to the Houston Rockets, agreed to restructure his supermax contract and shift the payment of some of his salary into the future....
Carmelo Anthony Says He Doesn't Understand Why The Rockets Didn't Want Him Anymore
I can’t decide what’s weirder: the realization that Carmelo Anthony’s NBA career is likely all the way over, or remembering that Carmelo Anthony played in an NBA game as recently as this past season. He bombed out of the rotation in Houston after 10 games, was dumped in a trade with Chicago, and the...
Free Chris Paul
Before the Houston Rockets traded Chris Paul to the rebuilding Oklahoma City Thunder last week, they reportedly tried to involve a third team in the deal, in order to redirect Paul to a more competitive situation. When that effort proved especially cumbersome, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey res...

And now, the longer view on the Russell Westbrook–Chris Paul deal that you haven’t seen yet:...
NBA Teams Shouldn't Be Allowed To Even Think About 2026
Daryl Morey and the Houston Rockets pushed the absolute limits of the NBA’s rules on trading draft picks to dump Chris Paul in Oklahoma City and bring in a slightly younger ball-dominant point guard—one who’s only two years removed from his last All-NBA first team appearance instead of five. To ditc...
So, Yeah, The Rockets Really Did Not Want Chris Paul Anymore

James Harden Pulled Over While Traveling
James Harden is currently in China doing one of those promotional tours where he visits some cultural landmarks, shoots some hoops at an outdoor half-court to a crowd of fans, and does various other silly things all while donning apparel of the company that sponsors him. But during his tour, photos ...
Report: Oh God Yes, The Toxic Rockets Are Pursuing Jimmy Butler
If there’s one thing a top-heavy Western Conference contender built on the ball-dominant shot-creation of two ornery superstars locked in an “unsalvageable” personality conflict needs, it is an infusion of noted mature adult in the room and agreeable teammate Jimmy Butler. Thankfully, that is exactl...
