NFL Week 5: MVP and LVP
Who had the better four-touchdown outburst, Travis Kelce or Taysom Hill? Kelce and Hill showed that efficient production trumps volume in wins. In the red zone, Kelce has a knack for getting open, and despite only gaining 25 yards on seven receptions, he maneuvered himself open for Mahomes on nearly...
Jim Harbaugh and Jimbo Fisher are kindred spirits
Jim Harbaugh and Jimbo Fisher are two identical strangers on similar paths. Both were top-notch quarterback gurus who haven’t been able to find a consistent spark behind center. This season, Texas A&M is on its second quarterback while Harbaugh has been deploying a platoon system featuring J.J. McCa...
2022 rookie wide receiver ranking Week 4: A relatively quiet week for these pass catchers
Last season we did our weekly rookie quarterback tracker, but with only one taken in the first round of 2022, we’ve moved onto another highly coveted position. For 2022, we’ll keep track of all six first-round wide receivers and their progress throughout the year. Some of our first-round rookies are...
Week 4 NFL Most and Least Valuable Players: Baker Mayfield watched Patrick Mahomes’ transcendent talent from the NFL cellar
Justin Jefferson’s 10 catches for 147 yards in London buoyed the Vikings’ win over New Orleans, Saquon Barkley once again took on multiple duties in the Giants’ zero-quarterback offense and Seattle’s Geno Smith earned the weekend’s highest pass-rating, but in Kansas City’s resounding win, Patrick Ma...
NFL Week 4: Are backup QBs better than we give them credit for?
America loves an underdog story, but the betting public hates backup quarterbacks. Despite the Cowboys going 2-0 with Cooper Rush filling in for Dak Prescott, Dallas is seeing only 16.7 percent of bets placed on them to take down their division rivals, the Washington Commanders on Sunday....
2022 Rookie wide receiver ranking Week 3: Chris Olave, Drake London, and Garrett Wilson show out
Last season we did our weekly rookie quarterback tracker, but with only one taken in the first round of 2022, we’ve moved onto another highly coveted position. For 2022 we’ll keep track of all six first-round wide receivers and their progress throughout the year. Some of our first-round rookies are ...
NFL’s Week 3 MVP and LVP: Lamar Jackson vs. Jalen Hurts and Jimmy G vs. Justin Fields
The Washington Commanders sit atop the NFL’s porcelain throne but they are also kingmakers themselves — for other offenses. Jack del Rio’s January 6 defense fared better in front of Washington fans than his 2022 defensive unit has. Jalen Hurts and Devonta Smith both feasted on the Commanders’ carcas...
Tom Brady vs. Aaron Rodgers was a complete dud
No one except delusional fans of both Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers would have expected a barnburner on Sunday....
The media needs to treat Brett Favre like it did Michael Vick and Colin Kaepernick
Newsflash: As much as you love them, dogs aren’t humans. And as much as it might have infuriated you, asking the police to do their job isn’t a fireable offense that should get you blackballed in your industry....
2022 NFL Rookie Wide Receiver Ranking Week 2: Garrett Wilson put on a show this week
Last season we did our weekly rookie quarterback tracker, but with only one taken in the first round of 2022, we’ve moved onto another highly coveted position — wide receiver. For 2022 we’ll be keeping up with all six first-round wideouts and tracking their progress throughout the year. Some of our ...
Week 2’s NFL MVP? That award goes to Kyler Murray
As tempting as it is to call Tua Tagovailoa the most valuable player of Week 2, he had help. Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle meep-meeped all over the Raiders, but he earned so much respect that this is the weekend everyone learned how to spell his last name. He’s now Mr. Tagovailoa. In Week 2, Micah P...
2022 Rookie Wide Receiver Ranking Week 1: Washington’s Jahan Dotson doubles up
Last season we did our weekly rookie quarterback tracker, but with only one taken in the first round in 2022, we’ve moved onto another highly coveted position. This season we’ll keep up with all six first-round wide receivers and track their progress throughout the year. In Week 1, we’ve already see...
Deadspin’s NFL gambling guide/futures bets to make for 2022 season
The term “same faces, new places” has never been more relevant after the NFL hosted probably its wildest and most active offseason in history. We even witnessed the greatest of all time do a complete about-face on his retirement....
NFC South Preview: It’s Tom Brady’s world, we’re just living in it
Logical outcome: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers get the jump on this division and never relent. Let’s keep it 100: The Panthers, Saints, and Falcons don’t have the cannons to match up to Tampa Bay’s gunpowder on both sides of the ball. Brady breaks Peyton Manning’s single-season passing yardage record, to...
Rams Twitter wilds out over Tom Brady ranking No. 1 in NFL’s Top 100 over Aaron Donald
The NFL Top 100 players ranking, conducted by the players, is complete. For the fourth time in its history, Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. comes in at No. 1. One team’s social media account immediately pounced with an objection to Brady being the best player in the league for 2022....
The health of Michael Thomas can make or break the Saints’ season
It’s supposedly only the smallest of detours — like having to briefly merge because of a single city truck in the right lane — but still no New Orleans Saints fan wanted to hear that Michael Thomas is currently injured. He’s been out since Saturday due to a hamstring injury....
Cut the crap, Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson are a Top 10 duo in the NFL
Lists, lists, and more lists. ...
Drew Brees, Drew Lock, Baker Mayfield: The Seahawks are linked to multiple QBs this offseason
Ever since the Seattle Seahawks traded Russell Wilson, they feel like a team that’s lacked direction, especially in the quarterback department. Although the Seahawks seem hell-bent on rocking with Drew Lock under center in 2022, NBC Sports’ Peter King says Drew Brees would be a good fit in Seattle s...
Drew Brees’ midlife crisis is right on time
Over the weekend, Jameis Winston’s commentary about realizing his passion “wasn’t football,” it was “playing football” seems to have resonated with Drew Brees. It was also more interesting than anything he’s ever said in the public sphere. Brees is going through a pseudo-mid-life crisis exacerbated ...
Baker Mayfield’s time has run out in Cleveland, now they just need to find his next destination
Baker Mayfield had a rough 2021-22 season in Cleveland, so it’d be safe to say he was already at a low point heading into the offseason. That low point is probably down to the floor now after finding out the Browns had replaced him when they traded for Deshaun Watson, a QB that didn’t play one game ...
