It’s time to send Bob Nightengale to a farm upstate
It’s not much of a story that Bob Nightengale was once again spewing out lava of baseball drivel. That’s been his gig for years now, essentially just acting as a conduit for whatever bullshit the powers that be want out there in exchange for his beloved “access.” Access which he’ll use to lord over ...
Vegas donates Marc-Andre Fleury to Hawks, if he shows up
The flat salary cap continues to make things awfully weird in the NHL — weirder than we might have ever imagined....
This is what Luke Prokop is up against
I bet you didn’t think the lawsuits against the Chicago Blackhawks could get worse. Sure they can! This is hockey! There is no bottom to the gorges of ignorance and detestability! That’s what happens when you have a collection of 7th-grade educated shitheads playing games for guys who are only worri...
This is what the Blackhawks have always been
It’s probably a story that you’ve heard a million times by now if you have any sports leanings, but it needs emphasizing. In the spring of 2010, the Chicago Blackhawks were the center of Chicago. Not just Chicago sports, but Chicago. It was a meteoric and shocking rise, simply because three years be...
So Jack Eichel is definitely done in Buffalo
Thanks to the haphazard scheduling of this NHL season and the need to make up games lost to COVID protocols and the virus itself, it’s hard to mark exactly when the season ends for a lot of fans. Some teams are already in the barn, while others still have a handful of games to go. Which leads to pre...
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Feast your eyes on some really cool, and really ugly, green uniforms
As everyone knows, the St. Patrick’s Day tradition is to wear green. While Ray Ferraro and the 1989 Hartford Whalers did this for every road game, what can a sports fan pick out of the closet to garner the luck o’ the Irish and avoid the dreaded pinches for those who forget to don the right apparel?...
You should probably prepare for a Patrick Kane MVP campaign again
As I’ve remarked a few times before, just because the shape and structure of the seasons have been so greatly altered hasn’t kept the favorites from reaching the top. It’s no different in the NHL, where all four divisions are led by the teams you would expect, and if they’re not, those teams are sim...
It Was an Excellent Weekend for Whining in the NHL
For a group of people who have considered themselves the toughest, most down-to-Earth, fight-through-everything bunch for decades, NHL players and fans sure do bitch a lot. We got an excellent example of that this past weekend. ...
The Blackhawks Are Just Showing Off
The Chicago Blackhawks have been skating the Red Wings out of their shiny new arena since tonight’s opening puck drop. They chased starting goalie Jimmy Howard after less than nine minutes, but they saved their prettiest goal yet for Petr Mrazek. Twenty-year-old native Michigander Alex DeBrincat, hi...
Jonathan Toews Was A Weirdly Intense Tween
This Chicago Tribune story tracing Blackhawks star Jonathan Toews’s competitive drive back to his earliest days kicks off with one hell of an anecdote—a deleted scene from The Omen, maybe....
The Blackhawks Are Unfair In 3-On-3 Overtime
The early returns on 3-on-3 overtime have been overwhelmingly positive—if it’s not necessarily more fair than treading ice until a shootout, it’s at the very least a ton more fun to watch. It’ll be just as fun to watch trends emerge: will certain strategies trump others on the wide-open rink? Are ce...
