Steelers release David DeCastro, and I feel for Najee Harris
I’m a big fan of strong O-lines. A great offensive line can make an average quarterback good. It can make a bad running back look great. Consistent high-level offensive line play almost guarantees a playoff appearance. That’s why I always scratch my head when a team makes a move like the Steelers di...
Stop making nonsensical ‘Build a roster with $10’ thingys
You know what I hate? I hate seeing those grid posts on social media that give you a certain budget to create a lineup. Seriously, I don’t understand the point of them at all. Those websites should really stop posting these things....
Ravens will take to the air
I’m going to keep talking about it until people start understanding what’s happening, because the clues just keep on coming: The Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson are going to throw the football a lot more this year. ...
Who’s got the best odds to walk away with NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year?
Let me start by saying that I am no betting wizard. However, when it comes to NFL rookies, I like to think that I know my shit. I have studied these players endlessly, have spent entirely too much time thinking about their landing spots and their potential impacts on the field, and have daydreamed a...
Cam Heyward thinks 2021 first-round pick Najee Harris has legs of steel
When a team drafts a running back in the first round of the NFL Draft, everyone expects him to carry a heavy workload for his new team (especially when his legs look like tree trunks), but Pittsburgh’s Cam Heyward might be expecting a little bit too much out of his new teammate, Najee Harris. ...
NFL schedule offers weird and wonderful highlights (and, oddly, a lot of Saints in primetime)
Football people are weird people, because we get giddy over something as simple as a schedule release. That giddy feeling happened last night, as the NFL (and it’s teams’ social media departments) released their full 18-week slate for the upcoming season, which will be the first in which every team ...
Three yards and a cloud of dust won’t cut it in AFC North anymore, and draft proves it
When I think of the AFC North, I think of smashmouth football. I think of Jerome Bettis vs. Ray Lewis. I think of physical, hard-hitting games, ending in scores like 13-9. I think of heavy-set run formations, with three yards and a cloud of dust, accompanied by some of the best defensive players acr...
The Broncos got the best running back in the NFL Draft
The best running back in the 2021 NFL Draft wasn’t Najee Harris. And it wasn’t Travis Etienne. It wasn’t a running back that played at Georgia, or Ohio State, or Alabama, or LSU. It wasn’t a running back that played in the national championship, or was recruited out of one of the hot-beds for high s...
Get ready for the end, old folks (and James Robinson)
My head is spinning with the amount of new data to process from the NFL Draft. I love the draft. I’m that nerd that keeps his own spreadsheet to track picks, and you bet I’m looking at it right now for this article. New players mean new competitions for playing time, so let’s take a little spin arou...
Roll Tide: Alabama dominates first round
In case anybody doubts whether or not the Alabama Crimson Tide is an NFL factory, look no further than the first round of the NFL Draft. Alabama sent six players to the NFL last night, tying the record for the most players selected in the first round by one school in draft history....
Surprises, smiles, and shiny shoes: An NFL Draft Round One recap
Night one was super fun. I’m so glad that we’re done speculating about where all the top prospects are going to go, and now can begin looking at actual fit and actual expectations. I was sitting at home looking like Joe Rogan in response to George Masvidal’s flying knee. There’s plenty to break down...
Football coach-turned-politician thinks incoming football players should avoid talking politics
This is not a story from our colleagues at The Onion....
Deadspin’s 2021 NFL Draft gambling guide
Remember this time a year ago when all we had to wager on was the NFL Draft?...
Mocking the Mock Draft: First-round scenarios sure to piss everyone off
You all have seen more mock drafts than you can count by now. I get it. I promise you, though, you have not and will not see another that resembles this in any way. With the NFL Draft finally, mercifully starting soon, let’s have a little fun and create the most chaotic mock draft we can think of. M...
Najee Harris shouts out Megan Rapinoe in Rose Bowl presser
“I guess you could say not too many males will say they look up to a woman nowadays,” University of Alabama star running back Najee Harris said at a Rose Bowl press conference. “But I really look up to her for what she does outside of sports.”...
