Taking Down The Field Goal Posts: One Less One Loss Team
This image was lost some time after publication. • (13) LSU 28, (8) Tennessee 24. Despite its disappointing lack of Cooter, the biggest game of the day was also probably the best. LSU beat Tennessee by a score of 28-24 behind a JaMarcus Russell touchdown pass to Early Doucet that I don't believe was intended for Early Doucet. If so, that'd make the fourth JaMarcus Russell pass that was caught by someone other than its intended receiver, but he overcame the three interceptions with three touchdown passes. The win ends up putting Florida in the SEC title game.
• (1) Ohio State 17, Illinois 10. I think the Buckeyes, much like Michigan, may have been looking ahead to November 18th already. I know it's still two weeks away, but how else to explain both of them winning by just one score, to Ball State and Illinois, respectively? Am I to believe that Illinois is actually good? It is the second week in a row that they've lost to a ranked team by one score... I dunno. Maybe. Next week, Ohio State has Northwestern, and Michigan has Indiana, and if they survive, the dream matchup remains intact.
• (18) Oklahoma 17, (16) Texas A&M 16. Oklahoma doesn't seem to be missing Adrian Peterson—or that Andre Peterson guy who Corso was talking about yesterday—much at all. Allen Patrick piled up 173 yards to help the Aggies to a narrow victory that was remarkably close, statistically.
• (22) Wake Forest 21, (16) Boston College 14. Look at Wake Forest. 8-1 and tied with Maryland at the top of the ACC Atlantic. They've got three games left, and they're all winnable, because they're all against ACC teams.
