Mandatory Credit: David Reginek-USA TODAY Sports Tarik Skubal tossed seven shutout innings and the host Detroit Tigers topped the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 on Tuesday night.
Skubal (9-3), who had lost his previous two starts, allowed three hits and one walk while striking out seven.
Andy Ibanez had two hits and drove in two runs for the Tigers, who bounced back from an 8-1 loss to Philadelphia on Monday. Riley Greene added an RBI triple.
Bryce Harper extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a double and a solo homer.
Phillies starter Ranger Suarez (10-2) gave up four runs and a season-high nine hits in six innings. He recorded four strikeouts without walking a batter.
The Phillies threatened with two outs in the second. Edmundo Sosa reached on a throwing error by third baseman Gio Urshela, and Whit Merrifield followed with a single to move Sosa to third. Merrifield stole second, but Skubal struck out Cristian Pache to keep Philadelphia off the scoreboard.
Philadelphia also had runners in scoring position in the third after Trea Turner was hit by a pitch and Harper followed with his double. Skubal then retired Alec Bohm on a groundout to end that threat.
Detroit broke the scoreless deadlock in the fifth with four runs. Justyn-Henry Malloy, Jake Rogers and Ryan Kreidler singled to load the bases with no outs. Matt Vierling grounded out to plate Malloy. Ibanez then smacked a Suarez changeup to center for a single, scoring two more runs.
Ibanez moved to third on a Mark Canha groundout. Greene then pulled a cutter down the first base line and raced to third for his run-scoring triple.
Skubal finished his sparkling start with a strikeout of Pache in the seventh.
Kreidler tried to generate another run in the seventh. He walked and stole second and third but was thrown out at home on an Ibanez grounder.
Harper ended the shutout bid with a leadoff homer in the ninth against Jason Foley. It was Harper's 20th home run of the season.
