Was Taylor Swift the reason Colin Cowherd's home was broken into?
Colin Cowherd source: Getty Images Fox Sports talking head Colin Cowherd said his Westerly, R.I. house was broken into on Feb. 23, and he theorizes that the alleged perpetrator might have had the wrong address.
“Taylor Swift lives 10 houses away,” he said on a recent episode of The Colin Cowherd Podcast. (The pop star was in Australia for another leg of the Eras Tour at the time.)
Cowherd said he pulled into his driveway with his wife, Ann, in the car at around 9:30 pm and noticed a vehicle already parked there. He said he walked up to the car, and the woman seated inside rolled down her windows.
“I said, ‘Can I ask why you’re here?’ and she pauses, ‘Well I was just wondering if your house is for sale?’ and I’m like, ‘Oh I’m getting robbed,’” Cowherd said. “Her boyfriend’s in the house. So I call 911 and give them the address.”
Cowherd went on to say that this isn’t the first time something like this happened.
“There’s been stories about multiple people being around the property. I mean Taylor Swift is the biggest star in the world, the biggest star,” he said. “Beautiful, talented. It really did make me think, ‘Oh my God,’ because this young lady had no idea who I was. I mean, she doesn’t care. But I got my wife in the car. I got to protect my wife.”
Swift purchased her 12,000-square-foot mansion in 2013 —for $17.75 million — and has even written about its history in a song on her album Folklore. The song, “the last great american dynasty” is about Rebekah Harkness, a socialite who married William Harkness, the heir to the Standard Oil fortune. Harkness purchased the mansion in 1948.
Cowherd, on the other hand, purchased his estate in August of last year for $8.5 million, according to Boston.com. Cowherd has also been on record as a “Tayvis” supporter, going on his radio show to address why people get so mad that she was shown during NFL broadcasts this season as she supported her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
“The fact that the world’s biggest pop star is dating a star tight end, who had one of his greatest games ever, and a network puts them on the air briefly, that it bothers you, what does that say about your life?” Cowherd said during his radio show, “The Herd” on FS1 a few weeks ago.
Deadspin reached out to the Westerly Police Department for comment, but has not received a reply as of publication.
Update: According to Westerly Police Chief Paul J. Gingerella:
“On 02/23/24 at approx. 2145 hours Westerly police responded to Watch Hill for a report of a female in a vehicle of the residence, that did not belong. Officers arrived and spoke to all involved parties and determined along with a mental health clinician that the female party was not in need of immediate medical care but would transported to another location and released to a family member. The residence was checked along with the homeowner, and nothing appeared out of the ordinary. It appears that she never left her vehicle or entered the residence.”
