The Cardinals Lost Their 41st Game
Photo: [object Object] Jonathan Broxton fell apart in the seventh inning Wednesday as the Pittsburgh Pirates rallied to beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-5.
In to preserve a 5-4 lead, Broxton put runners on the corners when he walked David Freese and gave up a deep single to Andrew McCutchen. Jung-Ho Kang hit a double to drive in two runs and give Pittsburgh a 6-5 lead. Kang reached home after an error by Aledmys Diaz.
Pirates pitcher Jeff Locke had a dismal four-inning start, but Pittsburgh’s bullpen cleaned up and frustrated the Cardinals’ lineup. All five relievers had one-inning, scoreless appearances; Mark Melancon got his 26th save of the season.
With the loss, St. Louis fell to third place in the NL Central. The team is 43-41 and 18-26 at home. The Cardinals lost 26 home games in the entire 2015 season. There’s always the next game!
