The Cardinals Lost Their 54th Game
Photo: Billy Hurst/ [object Object] The Cincinnati Reds broke open an eighth-inning tie Tuesday as they defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-4.
The game was knotted at four until the Reds’ lineup faced Cardinals reliever Matt Bowman. Tyler Holt, Billy Hamilton, and Zack Cozart had consecutive two-out, RBI hits for the final runs of the night. Bowman was tagged with all three runs and deemed the losing pitcher.
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny credited the Reds for sticking it out. From the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
“We keep getting back in it and hope to revisit what we’re able to do and pull off a come-from-behind (win),” Matheny said. “They outlasted us.”
The Cardinals are 59-54 and 27-33 at home. There’s always the next game!
