The Cardinals Lost Their 55th Game
Photo: David Banks/ [object Object] The St. Louis Cardinals utterly humiliated themselves at Wrigley Field Thursday as the Chicago Cubs won in extra innings, 4-3.
In the bottom of the 11th, St. Louis pitcher Zach Duke walked Anthony Rizzo with the bases loaded, allowing Willson Contreras to touch home. It was the Cubs’ 10th win in a row.
The Redbirds’ embarrassment was magnified by their inability to score with the bases loaded in the top half of the inning. Cubs pitcher Mike Montgomery allowed pinch-runner Mike Leake to reach third on a wild pitch, and walked Kolten Wong to put himself in a dangerous situation with two outs, but Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter failed to convert on the opportunity, as he struck out swinging.
After a truly shameful loss, the Cardinals are 60-55. There’s always the next game!
