The Cardinals Lost Their 68th Game
Photo: Jeff Roberson/ [object Object] Kyle Hendricks pitched eight hitless innings Monday as the Chicago Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-1.
Hendricks cruised comfortably with a lead through eight innings thanks to home runs from Ben Zobrist and Dexter Fowler, and an RBI single from Anthony Rizzo. The Cubs starter lost his no-hitter in the top of the ninth when Jeremy Hazelbaker hit a solo four-bagger. Manager Joe Maddon pulled Hendricks; Aroldis Chapman threw 16 pitches for the save.
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny complimented Hendricks on his pitch location. From the AP:
“He was pushing the corners all day long and he’s been doing that most of the season and didn’t give us a whole lot,” Matheny said.
The Cardinals are 75-68 and 32-40 at home. There’s always the next game!
