Buster Posey went 3-for-4 and hit his first home run in two months to help the San Francisco Giants beat the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 8-2.
Cardinals rookie pitcher Luke Weaver was sharp to start the game, but a six-run third by the Giants made things look different quickly. A throwing error by St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina early in the inning proved costly, and Weaver was pulled from the game before the frame was over.
Manager Mike Matheny was not pleased with the team’s fifth loss in six games. From the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
“We’ve just got to play better, that’s all there is to it. The standings are the standings, and we know what they are. You can’t run from them, hide from them. The standings say that we’re right there.”
The Cardinals are 76-71 and two games behind the second wild card spot. There’s always the next game!
