The Cardinals Lost Their 73rd Game
Photo: Charles Rex Arbogast/ [object Object] Jake Arrieta worked seven scoreless innings and struck out 10 Friday as the Chicago Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 5-0.
Arrieta allowed five hits and one walk in his 99-pitch outing. The Redbirds’ starting pitcher wasn’t as excellent today. Mike Leake was responsible for all five runs, along with three walks and seven hits, in 3 1/3 innings. St. Louis needed six relief pitchers to finish the game; three of them lasted less than a full inning.
The Cubs scored four runs in the first inning, including one from Anthony Rizzo’s RBI double, and essentially coasted for the remainder of the game.
The Cardinals are 80-73. There’s always the next game!
