The Cool Kids At MLB.com "Rock" "Out" In Detroit
This image was lost some time after publication. One of the best things about baseball's All-Star Extravaganza — which begins Sunday — is how much of a spectacle Major League Baseball thinks it is. Commissioner Bud Selig and Co. pull out all the stops and bunting, making sure the world sees the game of baseball at its best.
This, of course, also means the kids at MLB show just how cheesy they are.
In its roundup of festivities, MLB.com unveils its All-Star Lineup. And what leads that lineup? Why, The Romantics, of course! The "What I Like About You" crooners will play a 30-minute concert before the MLB Futures Game on Sunday, which is kind of funny, considering not a single player on the field was born when that song came out. When that game is over, Uncle Cracker — another Detroit-"based" act — will play "two songs" before the Celebrity Softball Game, which features "the Detroit Red Wings' Chris Chelios, actor Billy Bob Thornton, Richard Schiff of 'The West Wing' and 'American Idol" winner Ruben Studdard." Honestly, it's like hanging out at Studio 54 in its heyday.
