The Mets Gave Chipper Jones This Wack-Ass Painting To Commemorate His Last Series In New York

LeRoy Neiman is dead, but goofily colorful sports paintings didn't die with him. See, look at this one here. It's a gift from the New York Mets to Larry Wayne Jones, Jr. of Atlanta, on the occasion of his impending retirement.

The Mets play at Citi Field now, an Ebbets Field replica with some overhyped burger stands, but Jones did most of his Mets-wrecking at Shea Stadium, the Mets' home from 1964 to 2008. Jones hit .313/.407/.557 with 19 home runs in 88 regular-season games there, and he named his son Shea because of his success.

So Shea is the stadium represented in this wack-ass three-dimensional pop piece by Charles Fazzino. Seriously, this thing looks like Rip Taylor's visualization of a Mets game. One must pray this is the final Chipper-related insult.
