The Phillies' GM Is Sick Of All These Fans Who Just "Bitch And Complain"
Phillies GM Ruben Amaro has constructed a team that has put together back-to-back 73-win seasons, and with the club’s current record sitting at 19-28, it doesn’t look like things are going to get better this year. And yet, Amaro would really like for all those disillusioned Phillies fans out there to just shut the hell up already, because there’s a process, and that process involves a lot of losing, or something.
Amaro recently spoke to CSN Philly, and was asked to comment on his fanbase’s growing frustration, particularly at the fact that the team is in no rush to call up two of its best pitching prospects, Aaron Nola and Zach Eflin:
“They don’t understand the game,” Amaro said. “They don’t understand the process. There’s a process. And then they bitch and complain because we don’t have a plan. There’s a plan in place and we’re sticking with the plan. We can’t do what’s best for the fan. We have to do what’s best for the organization so the fan can reap the benefit of it later on. That’s the truth.”
On the one hand, Amaro is right; fans do complain a lot without really knowing what they hell they are talking about. On the other hand, the fans aren’t the ones who signed Ryan Howard to a five-year, $125 million contract extension.
