The Rangers' Surge Continues With A Walk-Off Walk
The Rangers beat the Mariners tonight in the most anti-climactic of climactic ways, on a walk-off walk. Here’s a video of the play, but it’s pretty boring considering that it’s just a walk:
The Elvish Fernando Rodney walking home the winning run wasn’t the only weird part of the bottom of the ninth, as the Rangers loaded the bases up for Adrian Beltre on two bunt singles and a hit-by-pitch. They got the run across without the ball ever leaving the grass, let alone the infield.
When the Rangers traded for Cole Hamels, I was skeptical that it would be enough to propel them towards the playoffs. But while the Rangers lost Hamels’s first two starts for the club and skipped his third because of a groin injury, they’ve gone 12-3 in the others since his arrival to rapidly gain ground on slumping AL West foes Los Angeles and Houston. The win was the Rangers’ fifth straight, drawing them level with the Angels, three games behind the Astros and just one game out of the final wild card spot.
