The Reds Won 10 In A Row, So Now Marty Brennaman Has To Shave His Head "Like A Baby Nutsack"
Marty Brennaman doesn't have a ton of hair left, it's true. But what remains atop the Reds radio voice's dome is white and poofy and instantly recognizable, and come Friday, it's going to be on the clubhouse floor.
A few weeks ago on the team plane, Brennaman told bench coach Chris Speier he'd shave his head if the Reds won 10 in a row. They'd flirted with pulling ahead in a muddled NL central, and strung together three separate six-game streaks this year, but Brennaman probably didn't expect to have to pay up. Maybe Marty should have looked at the schedule: the Reds got Milwaukee, Houston, and Colorado, all in a row.
Ten wins later, here we are. As Miguel Cairo stepped on first to make the last out of a 7-2 win over the Rockies, Brennaman made the resigned call:
"And this one belongs to the Reds! Cincinnati has won 10 in a row and I'm gonna shave my head absolutely bald."
The Reds are 17-2 in their last 19, have a three-game lead over the Pirates in the central, and are tied for the best record in baseball. And they've done it without Joey Votto, but this has always been a team built around its pitching staff. The Reds are the only team to use the same five starters all season, and they lead the league in both starter ERA and complete games.
Meanwhile Brennaman won't go under the clippers until Friday—he's got commercials to film in the meantime—but it's going to happen. And one Red who can't wait is Brandon Philiips:
