The Uniforms That Made Baseball Cry
This image was lost some time after publication. It was Retro Day at Petco Park on Thursday, which probably doesn't mean much to you if you weren't a baseball fan in the 1970s. But for those who lived through those dark, confusing times, you have our sympathy, and we're sorry you had to relive the horror. We've all seen pictures such as the ones above, no doubt. But to truly appreciate the uniforms of the Houston Astros and San Diego Padres circa 1976, one has to actually see them, live, in action ... or else ingest a wide variety of toxic plants. Has the world of professional sports ever produced more frightening garb? Keep in mind that we haven't even shown you the Padres' 1976 road jerseys; the mustard yellow-and-brown, Ray Kroc inventions which may have been the worst body coverings in the history of man — and we're including Huggy Bear's outfits on Starsky and Hutch.
