This Depressing, Discarded Mound Of Plastic Tarps Is What Was Torn From Detroit's Locker Room After The A's Forced Game 5
It's not quite as dramatic as the stories we used to hear of ol' Jean Yawkey being wheeled toward the visitors' clubhouse at Shea Stadium in the waning moments of Game 6, but it does give a rare glimpse into what happens on the losing side of those epic playoff game collapses that keep the bubbly on ice.
Anthony Witrado of the Sporting News tweeted this picture of what remained from the protective plastic that adorned the Tigers locker room at O.co Coliseum as late as the bottom of the ninth, at least until Coco Crisp forced a Game 5 with his game-winning hit. One minute, all that covering is but a small symbol of having advanced to the League Championship Series. The next, it's crumpled up into a failure pile of sadness plastic.
