Tiger Woods on wildfires in Los Angeles area: 'It hits home'
Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods watch golfers warm up for TGL's inaugural match at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Tiger Woods took to social media on Tuesday to address the concerning situation surrounding the deadly wildfires in the Los Angeles area.
"The devastation that is ongoing with the LA fires is such a tragedy and being from California, it hits home," the 15-time major champion wrote. "My heart is with those who have suffered unimaginable loss. Thank you to the incredible heroes that are the first responders helping to contain and save the community of Los Angeles.
"We plan to provide an update on our own charitable efforts to help those communities in the coming weeks. Stay strong LA!"
The Genesis Invitational, which is hosted by Woods, is scheduled to take place at the Riviera Country Club in the Pacific Palisades from Feb. 13-16.
Riviera was spared from the fires despite being in mandatory evacuation zone. The PGA Tour hasn't made a final decision on whether it will be held there.
Woods, 49, has served as the tournament host of the Genesis Invitational since 2019. He was born in Cypress, Calif., about 32 miles from Pacific Palisades.
Fires continue to burn Tuesday, with forecasters warning winds are expected to gust through noon Wednesday. So far, at least 24 people have been killed in the fires, which have burned more than 60 parched square miles and destroyed more than 12,000 homes and other structures, CBS News reported.
