Mandatory Credit: Soobum Im-Imagn Images Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards was fined $25,000 by the NBA on Thursday for throwing the game ball "with force" into the stands during Tuesday's 124-121 road win over the Portland Trail Blazers.
The incident occurred after Edwards rebounded a Portland miss at the end of the second quarter. He pump-faked a three-quarter-court heave and then followed through with it by launching the ball well after the buzzer sounded.
It didn't appear to be out of frustration or malice, but the ball struck someone standing next to the basket.
Edwards, the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, is averaging a career-high 29.6 points this season along with 5.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists. His scoring average is on pace to increase for a fifth consecutive season.
